SUMMER HOLIDAY- Eastwood Park Theatre, 5 -10 October, 2009
The Theatre Guild committee were proud to present Summer Holiday as our 2009 production. Based on the 1963 movie starring Cliff Richard, the show made a successful transition to the stage in the late 90s and was revived in 2003 by production legend Bill Kenwright. The show had an extensive national tour featuring big names like Darren Day, Suzanne Shaw and Christopher Biggins before settling in the West End for a short run.
The show features a string of 60s hits including "The Young Ones", "Foot Tapper", "In The Country", "Bachelor Boy", "Do Ya Wanna Dance?" and "Summer Holiday" to name but a few. With the emphasis firmly on uplifting music, big dance numbers, light storyline and a 'get them out of their seats' finale, parallels with our 2008 hit production of Copacabana were bound to be drawn ... and, boy, did it deliver! "If it ain't broke ... don't fix it" ... a wise webmaster once said!
This was the show that began with a voiceover contribution from STV Weatherman, Sean Batty, and a publicity campaign that earned us a half-page feature in The Sun! The show featured no fewer than 4 double decker buses, a boat, a motorbike and 8 zimmer frames (how on earth did we fit that lot backstage??). The audience were entertained by "the man with the bananas", a Swiss policeman wearing 2 pairs of sunglasses and a notable cross-dressing performance from a new member of the club!! Show week activities featured a delightful meal at Bar Milano and a lot of lost luggage at the after show party!
THE VENUE
Eastwood Park Theatre is an outstanding visual and performing arts venue in the leafy suburbs, south of Glasgow, fusing the comforts of a modern, revamped facility with an air of retro from the original 1970's building.
Both audience members and performing arts organisations have benefited from a recent £1.75 million refurbishment to the theatre building which now provides tate-of-the-art stage facilities, access for performers and patrons using wheelchairs, and a lush modernised, intimate auditorium.

Since re-opening on the 22nd February 2007, the theatre has accommodated full-scale performing art productions, festivals, author events, film screenings, bands and launch events.
The new auditorium can seat up to 338 people.
THE STORY
Don and his fellow London Transport bus mechanics journey through Paris, the Alps, Italy and then Greece. Along the way they pick up three young girls in a clapped-out Morris Minor and a young American pop star on the run from her domineering mother. This all to the strains of a hit-filled score featuring "In the Country", "Summer Holiday", "I Could Easily Fall in Love with You", "Bachelor Boy", "Move It", "Living Doll", "The Young Ones" and "On the Beach".
A real taste of Great British nostalgia to a score our audience will already know and love!
