| David Sturgeon
David joined the Guild in 1999 for our highly acclaimed production of Half-A-Sixpence but he has been singing and performing as a musician almost his entire life. This is most evident when you see him play piano - he is quite literally a natural. When he plays it is like the keyboard is an extension of his fingertips! David has played in many bands across many genres including rock, punk jazz and folk.
David originally joined us as a member of the chorus but first drew admiration for his convincing cameo as the 'Lt. Buzz Adams' in our Millenium production of South Pacific. Since then he has played a number of roles for us including 'Herman' in Sweet Charity, Head Waiter 'Rudolf' in Hello, Dolly! and 'Harry / Baptista' in Kiss Me Kate. In 2007 he returned to delight our audience as 'The Governor' in our production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.
David counts his FIRST ever stage performance in playing an "out of favour wife" in a production of The King and I. He is quick to point out that this was an "all male production" but (frankly) the cat is out of the bag ... and now we understand why he is reluctant to reveal a REAL secret below!!
He has been a member of our popular Concert Party for several years and has often accompanied our usual pianist Norma Fingland at these events, allowing her to sing!
When he is not on stage, David claims to be rehearsing and recovering! We asked David to recount a funny theatre story: he recalls the recent concert in Rutherglen where "half the keys on their piano didn't work ... and the other half were out of tune!". (David's secret: "Texas has a whorehouse in it"!)
