Robert Kirkham

Robert Kirkham

Robert joined Theatre Guild in 2006 and immediately won the popular role of "Gangster" in our production of Kiss Me Kate. He returned in 2007 to play Melvin P. Thorpe in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, played nightclub owner Sam in 2008's Copacabana and this year keeps us laughing as Jerry in our production of Summer Holiday! Hailing from East Kilbride he has played a number of principal roles for East Kilbride Light Opera Club including Benny Southstreet Guys and Dolls, Prez (The Pajama Game), The Purser (Anything Goes) and Harry (My Fair Lady). In addition he has played Mr. Fox for The Lyric Club in their 2003 production of Mack & Mabel.

Robert has been involved in Theatre since he was 16 and has performed various roles in local Pantomime productions as well as musicals. He also took a year out from working in 2004 to study Musical Theatre at Langside College and performed as The Narrator in the College Production of Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Robert lists his offstage activities as "trying" to play 7-a-side rugby, playing pool, "murdering" songs at karaoke and he also enjoys the odd game of poker ... sounds like Jim Munro's soul mate!! His first EVER performance was as 'Joe the barman' in a school production of Calamity Jane!

We asked Robert to tell us a funny theatre story: "When doing a local pantomime production of The Wizard Of Oz my friend Brian thought it would be a good idea to take me to a local bar for a couple of refreshments before he came to see the show. As you can imagine 1 beer turned into 7(!!) and by the time I was due to go on stage I was a (nervous) wreck! Also, I had a lot of lines to remember being the TIN MAN!! So a valuable lesson was learned that day (never get Brian a show ticket again!!)". [Er, I think there is a STRONGER moral to that tale, somehow. Ed.]

Robert's secret (He's 25 years old ... or so he says!!)
