Tony Smith

Tony Smith

Tony joined Theatre Guild to work backstage on our 2001 production of Anything Goes but worked on and off stage prior to this for various productions with the Lyric Club, the Cecilian Society and Kilmardinny Players. His first principal role was as Ike Skidmore in the Cecilian Society's 2000 production of Oklahoma! - a role he reprised for us in 2004! He followed this by playing Mr Twimble in the Cecilian's How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying before making his Theatre Guild stage debut as Daddy's Assistant in Sweet Charity. In 2006 Tony featured as Hortensio (plus several minor character roles) in our 'sell out' production of Kiss Me Kate.

His first EVER performance was as a 10 year old (5ft 10 inch) elf in pantomime. When he is not on stage (or behind it) he continues with his day job leaping tall buildings in a single bound and never straying far from a telephone box. In addition to his super hero duties, Tony is an active member of our committee (having recently been voted on to the position of Treasurer) and is a former President and Treasurer of the Cecilian Society.

Tony recalls a funny moment from his last production of Oklahoma!: "I managed to get myself heavily involved in the dancing. One night I broke the golden rule - never wear white socks with black trousers and shoes. I hoped no-one would notice. Unfortunately, whilst dancing to the Act 2 opener right at the front, my shoe flew across the stage!" D'oh! (Tony's secret: His feet are exactly 1 foot long - aparently very handy for measuring floor space!)
